 | 07:48 am - Out of the corner of my ear I heard something horrible this morning on the radio; at least I think I did. I heard a commercial that seemed to imply that the Red Sox and Yankees announcers were going to switch broadcast stations during the series this weekend. There was a URL (I think) but I didn't hear what it was, and I think I heard it was sponsored by Verizon FIOS, encouraging you switch! (If I had verizon, I'd switch to Comcast just on principle.) They didn't say whether it was radio or TV, and that would make a difference. If it's TV, that's okay. If it's radio, that's NOT on.
More information if i find any, although a google search didn't turn up anything on this. Maybe I was hallucinating. Current Mood: confused

 | 10:24 pm - Ah announcers... "And a big night for Kevin Youkilis. A four hit game. His first of this year and his first since last season." I guess, yes, you could make the argument that he might not have had one last so you first since...X might be interesting, but. I dunno. First since last season just doesn't sound impressive. Current Mood: Orioles/Red Sox

 | 11:43 am - Empty vs clean I had a realization yesterday that empty and clean aren't the same thing. It feels like a general truism that applies to the spiritual and mental realm as much as the physical realm. Clean implies a sense of tidiness and opportunity. A chance of rebirth, and starting over. Empty just means numb. There's space and a void, but it doesn't convey the same sense of purity. There's no feeling of a clean slate. There's still debris left-over in the space. It's not useful stuff, or big stuff. It's just stuff.
On a similar house-cleaning note, ( After the last game ) Israel is in a state of war. Current Mood: anxious

 | 03:09 pm - Disappointed Is anyone else disappointed by the World Series? I've never been a fan of domes in baseball, but to have a world series postponed mid-game and then resumed 3 nights later is icky.
Of course, Hoppie is quick to point out that any other game would have been called at the end of the 5th when the Phillies were ahead, so they would have won. I don't know. It just feels wrong to me. Another legacy of the Selig era.

 | 08:23 am - Fear and Loathing I'm learning to live with the hate. It's way better than the pity.
And unrelated: I lost an earring yesterday. One of my new ones that I'm ashamed to admit how much I paid for them. They were very quickly becoming my sentimental favourites. I noticed it was missing on the drive home from work. Current Mood: contemplative Current Music: Schoolhouse Rock "The Four Legged Zoo"

 | 02:15 pm - Not tired I got home at 5:30 and was fast asleep by 6:15. Hoppie woke me up by playing with the airco around about 8. He was amused that talking to me had no effect, but the beeping of the airco woke me instantly. We had dinner and watched the All Star Game....alot. I went to bed during the 13th inning, but was still awake when hoppie came up during the 15th and since I was still awake he turned the TV on, so we saw the end. What a game. Francona is a lucky guy. And the game wasn't called for a tie. If he'd lost after his strategy of trying to let everyone play, that could have been brutal. As it is, he's going to earn the undying hatred of Tampa Bay fans and management (not that he didn't have it already.) Scott Kazmir is probably pleased to be able to get in the game and get the win though.
I woke up at 6:45. Which is as well because I had to go to work today. My computer sorta died yesterday. There was an odd smoky/charred plastic smell. IT popped the disk into a new chassis and verified that the battery and power cables still work and handed it back to me. That was quick and relatively painless. Yea! I'm hoping this chassis has a smoother keyboard.
Update: It does have a smoother keyboard, but what it doesn't have is network access. They've restricted all connections to trusted and known machines, and this one isn't. Ugh.
I really need to remember to post my blog posts when I've finished with them rather than keep them forever on the editing board. Current Mood: mellow

 | 10:33 am - Grrr Some thoughts:
Laundry soap is apparently like milk. People feel like it's acceptable to put it on the shelf with 2 drops in it and not inform their housemates that it's nearly empty.
I'm a wimp. Tivo is trying to upsell me something, but that's how I got into this situation in the first place. No. Tom says cancel, and I'm going to. Will not be upsold! *HOLDS THE LINE FIRMLY* But it's pathetic that the only way I could do it was to repeat Tom's words in my head. I need desperately to grow a spine.
Parties on Sunday were fun. Betsy was well pleased with her mint julep mix. I win! I think Bailey was pleased by or Rob or Ros too. I know I'm well pleased with Martha's lariat. It's so cute and pink! and green!
I'm on hellahold. Good grief. Finally. Cancelled the upstairs TiVo sub for the unit that's been broken for ages.
For a project that had no doc impact, I'm doing a lot of doc work.
Going into the city today for a migraine study prequal. I expect I won't qualify. That will be okay. ("I thought that was an exercise in rejection?" "No, Jane. that was rejection")
I think I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Jon Lester's no hitter. He gave up 2 walks. A year ago, he was under chemotherapy. Look what we can do. Current Mood: busy
