So hoppie was seduced by a package of giant portabella mushroom caps in the store t'other week. I used two of them in stir fry I made on Thursday (supposedly while hoppie was setting up the airconditioner, but actually before, and I got roped into helping with the setup.), but I held two back thinking it might be fun to "Foreminate" them. So I packed them in sandwitch sized baggies and put them back in the fridge. Yesterday when I got home from work, I mixed a marinade from balsamic vinegar, olive oil, "Italian seasoning", some grates of nutmeg, and lots of minced garlic. I split the marinade between the two baggies and refrigerated until hoppie got home, 3 hours later. Then we remove the mushrooms, scraped of most of the garlic (we were worried it would burn) and grilled for 10 minutes. They came out pretty well. Hoppie said his mushroom wasn't marinated clear through to the center, but it was mostly marinated and he suggested for next time skipping the oil to see if deeper penetration could be achieved.
We reserved the leftover marinade and scraped off garlic as well as the drippings from the Forminator to make a.....not sure what. Sauce of some type, or maybe a salad dressing? Suggestions?
