|11:22 am - Have you now, or have you ever been a member of the communist party|
So I give blood this morning. I'm giving my information to the clerk, and she looks me up in the computer and finds that I've given blood through them before, (I'm such a blood whore. I think I've given blood to just about every organization in Boston. I last gave to these people in 97. I'm trying to compile a list of all the different organizations that have my blood. I switched recently to Mass General, but I think I'll switch back to BI because they do this drive right near home every 8 weeks.) and the clerk says, "Oh, you've changed your name." And I think about it for a moment, "yes, I suppose I have. I got married last year." It says something that I didn't stutter over giving my name as Marci Hopkins anyway. So we continue on, and she asks, "Have you ever given blood under a different name?" and before I can answer "No." she says, "of course you have! Spell your old name for me again, please."
"Oh! Is that what that means?"
She gives me a quizzical look and says, "Yes, that's exactly what that's for."
It never occured to me that it would be a marriage related question. I've always assumed that it was for, I dunno, people in the witness protection program, maybe?
