The 5 questions from cassie_o.
- Who is your favorite author and why?
I think Jasper Fforde is my current favorite, if by favourite you mean someone who's books I go out of my way to get. His books are quirky and funny. I'm also really enjoying a new author, Maggie Anton. She's got some historical romances that blend religion, history, and romance. I'm really enjoying them.
- What brought you to Mass?
Impulse really. hr_macgirl, my college roommate, moved here and I enjoyed it when I was here. When the time came to graduate and pick a direction, I didn't know where to go. Did I stay in Cincinnati, maybe work for the University? Go back to Louisville? Go to California where Hoppie was living? And then one evening, I was talking to tober and he was saying there were technical writer jobs at his company BBN, in Boston. And the instant he said that I realized that's where I wanted to go. I called up Hoppie that night and I told him I wanted to go to Boston.
- If you could travel anywhere in the world where would it be?
I've always been limited by time and money. I mentioned that hoppie and I are considering vacationing through the Scandinavian countries, and the UK, but on the list of places I've imagined going, but can't imagine getting too, I'd love to tour India.
- What is one thing you wish you could tell your family and they would just understand without asking tons of questions afterwards?
I need a certain amount of processing time.
- What was the first romance book you read?
I don't know what it's called, but it was revolutionary war and featured a pirate/landowner who was called The Raven secretly and publicly a known Tory sympathizer. It opened with a Dorothy Parker quote, "By the time you swear you're his; shivering and sighing. And he swears his passion is, infinite, undying. Lady, make a note of this; One of you is lying."
The girl is a spoiled young thing set to make a match her father arranged for her. She doesn't want to marry the old goat her father has picked so she arranged to be caught in the stables with a stableboy by her father and her fiance and is banished to America to marry a distant cousin (who is also cousin to The Raven, although not on the same side of the family). On her way, she is kidnapped by The Raven and um compromised, then ends up marrying The Raven for real. It's very sweet.
